Tara and Co v Warwick University Staff Squad
Tuesday 15th June 2009

Late start darkens the evening for Tara and Co Batsmen

After arriving to the university ground late due to roadworks, the university
staff won the toss and chose to bat. New comer Taz was first to bowl and on his 3rd
delivery of the over, a superb delivery was too fast for the batsman to handle and took
the stumps apart. The University Staff were using their knowledge of the pitch to
there advantage, hitting a number of fours over the coming overs. David Shield was
put into bowl on the seventh over , his first delivery had the batsman worried as he
struggled to deal with the yorkers being bowled at him, this showed further when in
his third delivery Shield delivered a ruthless yorker and clattered the stumps. The
most clinical bowler of the evening was Vinod Kumar, who took two wickets in quick
succession helped the fielding team immensely. Next to take a wicket was captain
David Quain, after a nice delivery was struck up in the air and was caught by Shield.
Tara and Co's final wicket was taken by Nik Kalia who seemed to be bowling faster
with every ball, as I'm sure the receiving batsman could confirm having taken a
vicious delivery to the leg.

With the University Staff finishing up with a nice total of 126, the chase was
on. Tara and Co sent out Taz and captain Quain to bat in conditions that were getting
worse by the minute through bad light. Quain started off playing safely so runs were
needed elsewhere and these came from the bat of Taz. With batters having to retire if
they reached 25, it wasn't long before Taz had to depart after hitting a stunning 27 off
8 balls. With Taz departed Captain Quain suddenly had a rush of blood hitting a
beautiful shot for four, this seemed to get him over excited and a few balls later he
caught hold of the ball well, but not well enough as a tremendous piece of fielding
saw the end of the captains stint at the crease. As well as being great at delivering
balls, Nik Kalia showed he was also good at hitting them scoring a impressive 24
before being caught. Varun was also batting well as Tara and Co's total runs increased
at a steady rate. One of the last batters in was young Sahil Kalia and he showed some
great potential with the bat before running out of partners to bat with, as a late bit of
controversy meant that Taz couldn't go back in and Tara and Co finished up with  94
and lost the match.
